Celebrating Death

To venerate something is to hold it in great regard, to respect it and give it reverence. We have venerated our spirits, whether they are our dead or spirits of other natures all through our history and continue to do so today. It can be very visible as we move toward Samhain (Dia De Los Muertos, All Hallow's Eve, All Saint's Day, Halloween) and at the top of our minds. This time of year is dedicated to the spirits, the liminal, what goes bump in the night and is unseen. It is visible and consistent, something that the other 11 months of the year it really isn't.

Veneration of your dead is really something that can be and should be done all year round. If there is a desire for a connection with them, then you are going to need to be ready to work with them 365. Spirit relationships are much like relationships in life, they need even give and take, nurturing and respect. So, don't be afraid to work with your spirits. They are with you and waiting, wanting to connect.

Blessings,

Alyssa
